EMPLOYER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP):

How does One Feather Consulting (and network affiliates) offer culturally sensitive EAP services?
All EAP network affiliates are required to have an annual in-service training from One Feather Consulting. The training will be conducted by One Feather Consulting’s core affiliates. Core affiliates are Native and non-Native, female and male professionals who are professors, doctors, and licensed human service providers and have years of experience working with culturally diverse populations, including Native peoples. The purpose of the training will be to familiarize network affiliate providers with One Feather Consulting’s mission, goals, and provide professional training in the arena of working with ethnically diverse cultures including: American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Americans, Indigenous Populations, and First Nation Peoples.

CORE AFFILIATES:

BARBARA GENERAL, LMSW, PhD Student (Onondaga)
Barbara General is from the Six Nations Reservation and is an Onondaga, of the beaver clan. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Buffalo State College and a Master’s of Social Work degree from the University at Buffalo. She currently attends the University at Buffalo, School of Social Work, PhD program in Social Welfare. She is in her last semester of course work. Barbara has over 15 years of experience in the human services field and has predominately worked in aboriginal communities both on the reservation and in the urban settings. Her areas of interest are crisis intervention, community development, education and prevention, and family violence. Barbara’s research interest and dissertation work is focused on violence against Native American women in New York State. She has three sons and they currently reside in Fort Erie, Ontario.

PAUL GRAY, LMSW, Corrections Counselor
For many years Paul worked as building contractor and structural iron worker. As time progressed he turned his attention to the world of academics and began to become concerned about the many social problems around him. He made a decision to personally get involved to change some of the social problems he saw. Paul went to college and graduated with honors with his masters degree focusing in clinical social work. Upon completion of his masters, he was invited to serve as adjunct professor from the university from which he graduated. Currently, Paul is active in many community issues which utilize his training in mental health and substance abuse. In his 16 years of social work practice, he has provided a great deal of pro-bono work for indigent peoples. At present, Paul works with inmates in the NYS Department of Corrections as a corrections counselor. In this capacity, Paul has given numerous presentations to enhance the rehabilitation process of inmates. Previous experience includes being a senior clinician at the Turning Point half-way house located in the Southern Tier and Bry-Lin Hospital in Buffalo.

ROBIN HARTINIGER-SAUNDERS, LMSW, PhD Student
Robin has 11 years experience working with families and children. A majority of her experience was gained working in the Department of Social Services in the county of Chautauqua. She is highly familiar with the southern tier area as it relates to social service agencies. These include networking with the Chautauqua County Department of Social Services, attorneys, and family court systems. Robin is also an assistant professor and lead field coordinator for State University of New York at Fredonia, School of Social Work and is a doctoral student at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

BERNARD A. HUBER, LCSW
Bernard A. Huber is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in practice since 1986. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Buffalo State College and his Master’s degree from State University of New York at Buffalo. Mr. Huber has worked in the field of child psychiatry, chemical dependency, and family therapy. He worked as the Clinical Director of Native American Community services and is presently the Director of Family Counseling and Employee Assistance Programs at Family & Children’s Service in Niagara Falls. Mr. Huber has a private practice in Amherst and is a part-time professor in the UB School of Social Work where he has taught since 1997. Current specialty areas of Mr. Huber’s include substance abuse, critical incident stress debriefing, trauma treatment, couples counseling, and anger management. He resides in Lewiston, New York.

WARREN SKYE, JR., LMSW, PhD Student (Tonawanda Seneca)
Warren Skye, Jr., LMSW, is from the Tonawanda Seneca Nation. He is a member of the Deer Clan. Warren earned the Master of Social Work degree, (MSW), from SUNY Buffalo in 1993; earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. in 1992; and the Associate in Applied Sciences in Human Services from Genesee Community College in Batavia, N.Y in 1990. He is licensed to practice social work in New York State, (LMSW). Mr. Skye is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. in Social Welfare program at SUNY Buffalo and expects to be conferred on 08/07. Warren Skye, Jr. currently serves as Associate Professor in Social Work and Director of the Social Work Field Program at Keuka College located in Central New York State. Prior to this, Warren was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Social Work Department at State University of New York College at Brockport for 8 years. Prior to that, he taught at Genesee Community College for 2 years at both the main campus and the inmate education program at Attica Correctional Facility. Prior to that, Mr. Skye served as Native American outreach coordinator for the Genesee/Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse in Batavia. Warren’s publications, research, and practice interests center on issues related to diversity, poverty, and issues related to health and wellness. Professor Skye is active on several professional boards at the local, state, and national levels; all of which are related to social work practice specifically within areas of; substance abuse, diversity, and social policy for underserved populations.

JUNE A. VAN EVERY-HUBER, LMSW (Upper River Cayuga / Oneida)
June A. VanEvery-Huber, LMSW (Licensed Master of Social Work), is an enrolled member of the Upper River Cayuga tribe of Six Nation Reservation. She is of the Turtle Clan. June obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Niagara University and her Master’s degree from State University of New York at Buffalo. June worked for many years as an Intensive Home-Based Counselor for Native American Community Services in Buffalo. June also worked for the Tuscarora Community Health Workers Program in affiliation with Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, and with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department as a Domestic Violence Advocate. June is presently employed by Niagara Wheatfield School District as a School Social Worker at Tuscarora Elementary School. She resides in Lewiston, New York.
